Qigong

What is Qigong?
Qigong (also spelled chi kung) is a powerful, ancient Chinese energy and healing system. It is the art and science of movement, breath and meditations designed to balance the mind, body, and spirit. The gentle movements and meditations cleanse, circulate, and cultivate the life energy (qi), leading to improved mental and physical health.

FAQ about Qigong

What are the benefits of qigong?

Qigong has been shown to improve posture and respiration, reduce anxiety, create a sense of calm, cause favorable changes in blood chemistry, and improve self-awareness and concentration. Research suggests that qigong may be beneficial for asthma, arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, headaches, pain, and a wide variety of common ailments. External Qi Healing is effective for the same range of illnesses as acupuncture..

What level of fitness is required to do qigong?

Qigong is very gentle on the body so anyone can do qigong. Qigong can even be done in a standing, seated or reclined position, so it's even beneficial for those who are disabled.

How does it work?

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that qi is the life force energy. When qi is stagnant, overly abundant, or depleted, it eventually results in mental or physical illness. This is like too much rainfall creating flooding, while too little creating drought. Neither condition is beneficial. Qigong allows the energy to flow freely and evenly throughout the body, creating harmony and restoring balance and health.

What style of qigong is done at Dao?

There are literally thousands of styles of qigong. Some were created to mimic the animals (Lion's Roar, Flying Crane, and Coiling Snake for example). Some incorporated martial arts. Some are named after their legendary founders. Some are named after what they do (Iron body qigong, Reducing Inflammation qigong, etc). All styles incorporate the principles of balance, relaxation, breathing, and posture. At Dao we do Business Qigong, which is a free style qigong practice that was developed recently to enhance productivity, reduce work place stress, and maintain employee health. Some corporations across the globe believe that using qigong to start the day increases sales, keeps negotiations focused, and helps to make wiser decisions.
