What is Past Life
Regression?
Past life regression is a process that allows people to
explore their past lives. Some clients are simply curious. Some are looking
for evidence of reincarnation. Some are hoping to resolve present life
difficulties. Some are doing spiritual exploration. It is almost always
therapeutic and helps the client to learn something about him or herself that
allows for growth and sometimes healing.
FAQ about Past Life RegressionDo I
have to believe in past lives in order for this to work?
No. There is no way to know whether the information that
comes through is a result of past lives or not, but the information that your
mind delivers almost always is significant in some way. You just have to trust
the process. Allow what's happening to happen, and go with the flow.
Will I be able to recall a specific time or place?
Sometimes. If that is what you desire, we set that as
the intention, but the mind goes where it needs to go. It reveals what you
most need to know right now and that is not always what your conscious desires
to see.
How often should I do it?
It is not recommended that you have past life
regressions more frequently than once a month- longer is better. This is
because it takes the mind a while to process the experience and the
information. If you race from experience to experience, you risk not living in
the now and not seeing all the richness of the past life experience.
Are there any dangers associated with past life
regression?
Yes. If you are engaging in past life regression as a
form of escapism to avoid living in the here and now, that's not healthy.
There is also risk of having an abreaction, which
means that you start to relive a horrible experience and experience that pain in
the here and now. There is no way of knowing in advance if this will happen to
you, so it is of utmost importance that you choose a qualified mental health
professional to take you through this process. I have seen clients who did
past life regressions on a lark and were traumatized by the experience because
of the inexperience of the practitioner. There are many methods for inducing a
past life regression. Most do not require any special training, so check the
credentials of the person you want to see to see if they are qualified to deal
with abreactions. If he/she is not a doctor or a mental health professional, he or
she is not.
Will I be someone rich or famous?
The research I've seen on this states that only 10%
of people who experience past life regression report being rich. This is
roughly the same percentage that occurs in the general population. Personally,
I have never regressed anyone who reported being Cleopatra or Napoleon. I
suppose someone had to be those people, so it's possible that it could
be you, but I wouldn't count on it. As for being rich, most regressions I have
guided uncovered lives of poverty and pain. A few were people of minor note,
like the town leader, but even this is rare.
What is the experience like?
It tends to be fairly relaxing. Some people
experience things very vividly with color, sights and sounds. Some only see
things. Some hear things. Some see nothing, but can sense information. Most
will get more detail in the five senses the more they do it. There is no right
or wrong way to experience a past life regression. What happens with you is
what is normal for you.
Will I remember everything?
Ninety percent of the population will have total
recall of the events. You don't lose consciousness or black out during the
experience. If a police car with sirens blazing goes by, you will hear it. If
a cat comes and sits next to you, you will feel it. Your body isn't frozen. If
a fire breaks out, you will be able to get up and run out of the building. You
have control of all your senses and can stop the experience at any time.
What if I get stuck?
No one has ever gotten stuck in a past life. You are
in total control of the experience and can come back whenever you like.
What types of things do people get help from by
experiencing a past life regression?
Client A saw two lives in one session. The first was
of a man who was kind of simple. He appeared to be of lower intelligence. He
had a friend to whom he was very loyal. This friendship broke off for
political reasons and the man went insane. The second life was of a female who
was the wife of the tribal leader. She was quite comfortable, but it was a
cold life of duty. She had no love of family. She carried out her duties well
and died by execution when her family was overthrown in favor of another. The
lesson she took from this experience was that love was the most important
thing in life.
Client B also saw two lives in one session. The first
was of a governess who cared for some children on a southern plantation. This
woman was God fearing and prayed every day. She was devout and stayed away
from anything that smelled of wickedness. She spent most of her life in prayer
and never married. The second was a fat man who practiced voodoo. He lived in
an isolated shack in the bayou, but had enough money to do whatever he wanted.
He was famous for his ability to make things happen and had many customers. He
had no friends, however, because everyone was afraid of his great power. The
lesson client B took from this experience was to balance spirituality so that
neither the light nor the dark dominated life. Another lesson was to live
among mankind and not isolate.
Can I heal a current life illness through past
life regression?
I have read that this is possible, but I have not
seen this among my clients. This doesn't mean that it won't happen for you. I
haven't had any clients who have come to me for that. Most of the people I see
obtain emotional healing or freedom from the experience though.
Will I be reunited with my soul mate from this
life in a past life?
There are many books that say that this is possible,
but I haven't had anyone come to me for that either. I have had one client
experience a spontaneous "reunion" with someone she considers to be her soul
mate in this life. They lived together as twins though, not as lovers. This
was an illuminating experience for her, but I don't think it's what someone
searching for their soul mate is looking for.
I don't say this to discourage that hope. I just want
every client to have realistic expectations of what the experience is about.
Books written about past life regression tend to print the fantastic stories
because they are designed to sell books. My experience with past life
regression is that the types of things you read about are not commonplace.
Possible, yes. Commonplace, no.
What is your experience and training with
regression?
I had my first regression in 1989. I've been
regressed countless times. I got my first hypnosis training in 1997. I later
trained specifically in past life regression with Henry Bolduc in 2000. I am a
trained mental health professional. I am a member of the National Guild of
Hypnotists (NGH) and have taught at the annual NGH convention in 2005 and
2006.
