What is LENS?
Low energy neurofeedback system (LENS) uses a weak, low
energy feedback system to produce brain wave changes in the client. This
stimulation allows the brain to make changes within itself that may improve
functioning. The person receiving the training does not have to "do" anything.
FAQ about LENSHow can LENS help
me?
Clients who have trained with LENS have reported
clearer thinking, increased motor skills, increased attention span and focus,
diminished hyperactivity, normalized sleep, decreased anxiety and depression,
reduction of irritability and mood swings, and better social interaction.

Does it hurt?
No. Although the client is hooked up to electrodes,
there is no electricity used and no shock. Most clients don't even notice the
weak radio waves that are used since they are many times weaker than that of a
cellular phone.
How does such low energy create positive change?
The feedback frequency is different from, but
correlates with, the dominant brain wave frequency. In neurological
functioning, a minor change of state can manifest a huge difference in one's
subjective experience. When stress or other outside factors, or biologically
based mechanisms, disturb the nervous equilibrium, neurofeedback therapy can
catalyze the brains own ability to rebalance. This may be experience as a
reversal of negative symptoms.
Are you saying that LENS will help me function
better?
LENS does not overcome what you are biologically pre-dispositioned
to achieve. In other words, it won't make you better than you are capable of
being, but it can help you maximize what you have. Performers, athletes, and
others involved in activities requiring high levels of functioning appreciate
the advantage of performing at their peak potential. If functioning has
diminished, LENS can help you reclaim it.
How long does it take to experience benefits?
Clients tend to notice positive changes within 6
visits.
How long do the benefits last?
The longer that a person trains, the longer the
benefits tend to last. If you experience significant gains in functioning, the
benefits tend to stay with you although some clients do report needing a
"booster" from time to time.
How long will I have to train?
This is varies from person to person. Some people
have significant benefit after 3 sessions and choose to stop training. Some
people continue to train for a year or more. There is no way of knowing ahead
of time how much training you will require to reach your goals. Variations in
length of training seem to be influenced by genetic factors, length of time
you have experienced the problem, what the problem is, and severity of the
problem.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effect is that the client
experiences an intensification of symptoms that he/she already has. This can
be reduced by reporting the side effects to the practitioner at each visit so
that training can be modified.
Can I do LENS if I am on medications?
Clients who are on medications should alert their
physician that they are training with LENS so that their medications can be
monitored. Sometimes the need for medication is reduced or eliminated.
Medications should not be reduced or eliminated without the involvement of a
doctor.
